The Taiga boreal forest is the largest land biome in the entire planet. The forest spreads all around the northern circumference of the earth and is home to 29% of its trees. In short, it is huge. That’s where a four year old girl called Karina became lost. She was with her loyal pooch Kyachaan, but the duo got stranded for 11 long days.
Karina and Kyachaan were taking a walk in the woods when the early arctic night began to fall. They became lost. Her family got worried and the whole town set out with hundreds of search and rescue volunteers the next day. But nothing worked. Everyone tried to find little Karina all throughout the next week, but they started fearing for the worst.
Karina and Kyachaan were stranded the woods in search of food and water for 11 days. Can you even imagine that? The little girl was able to find a scanty supply of berries and fresh water for the two of them, but it wasn’t enough. While Kyachaan on the other hand guarded them against bears and wolves that are found in abundance at Taiga. He also kept Karina warm through the chilly nights.
However one day, Kyachaan found the town and lead the rescuers back to the little girl. She was discovered in a tall bed of grass about 4 miles from the village. The poor thing was very weak and frightened, but was uninjured.
Karina and Kyachaan became popular all over the globe due to this event. They even have a statue in the center of town!
